A substrate is the material on which your artwork will be applied. There are many different types of substrates and new materials are always coming on the market, but here is a break down of some of the most common substrates used for signs.
- Acrylic, also referred to as Plexiglas, is a versatile material with a glossy finish that can have graphics applied to it and can also be transformed into brochure holders and boxes. Acrylic is also available in a variety of colors and can be illuminated.
- Aluminum is lightweight and durable and is ideal for outdoor use. It comes in a variety of weights and colors and has a special finish to prevent rusting.
- Banner Material is both cost-effective and durable. It can be used for both indoor and outdoor use and unlike many of the other materials; it can have graphics printed directly on it. Some of its most common applications are for sales, grand openings, sports and special events.
- Corrugated Plastic, also known as Coroplast, corrugated plastic is an inexpensive and lightweight material that can be utilized in indoor and short-term outdoor environments. Its most common use is for real estate signs.
- Polyvinyl Chloride, or PVC is a medium-weight material that has a matte finish that will hide fingerprints. It can easily be cut into custom shapes and can even be formed with heat.
