Holiday Signage Regulations: How to Stay Compliant

Jan 13, 2025 | Building Signs, Business Signs, Commercial Signs

Signs and graphics are an excellent visual communication tool for business. Many businesses utilize seasonal signage to celebrate the holidays with their community. Stringing lights, mounting signs, and sharing seasonal messages are all common practices for those looking to highlight sales, promote events, or to just engage in festivity. At Pinnacle Signs, we’ve been Central Arkansas’s trusted partner for graphics and signs for nearly 20 years. We help our clients tell their stories no matter the season. From operational signage to monument signage to holiday signage, our team of experts knows the ins and outs of local signage regulations. So before you place your holiday signs, check out some of our tips for making sure you maintain compliance!

Location

The first thing to be mindful of when placing signage–holiday or promotional–is location. Many businesses put exterior or monument signage close to the street where more traffic will boost visibility. This is a great tactic, but there are Arkansas-specific regulations to keep in mind when you deck out your signs for the holidays. If your business is close to a highway, there are minimum spacing requirements. Depending on your location, you may even need a permit for your temporary holiday sign. If you’re not sure what requirements apply to you, reach out to our team, and we can produce and place any holiday signs you need, ensuring we follow all state-specific standards!

Lighting

For certain holidays, like Christmas, lighting is an integral part of seasonal designs. Whether you are stringing lights around a monument sign, or using spotlights to highlight a message, there are a few requirements to keep in mind. When placing your lighting or choosing the level of brightness, make sure your lights aren’t pointed at or directed towards the street or any oncoming traffic. If you’re near any traffic signage, make sure your lights don’t obscure or interfere with traffic lights, signals, or signs.

Design

Whether you’re simply celebrating the season, or hoping to promote a holiday sale, here are some design tips to make sure your sign is in compliance. Make sure your sign does not resemble official state traffic signage in anyway (i.e. shaped like a stop sign). It is also important not to mount any signage to trees, or put up signs that are in need of maintenance or repair. If you’re using digital signage, or electronic messaging, these generally require a permit if you’re near a state highway. If you have questions about what may be permitted in your area, don’t hesitate to let us know

At Pinnacle Signs, our team is here to make our customers look great. You can trust our team to make sure we keep you compliant with all local regulations, so you can convey your message without worry. If you are interested in holiday signage for your business, we will get the job done.
