Tips for Hiring a Custom Sign Company

You already know that having a clearly visible custom sign is a great way to get people to notice your business, create brand recognition, and organically draw in customers. You might even have some ideas about what kind of sign you think will best represent your business.

But finding a sign company might seem like a tougher task than you expected. After all, there are a lot of sign companies out there, and a custom sign can be an investment. How do you know who you should work with?

We might be slightly biased, but we’ve put together a helpful list on choosing a sign company– and then working together to create your custom sign. letters. Presenting two different fonts, we created white lettering that matches the window hardware and looks chic on the building’s front. It perfectly identifies the location and is large enough to be seen from a distance.

Do your research, part 1

The first step is an obvious one. Look online for sign companies in your area, and take your time checking out their websites. Bonus points if they have a gallery of their work, which should give you a good idea of their capabilities.

Reading the reviews is also an important step, and can help you get a good idea of what it’s like to work with the people at that company.

Do your research, part 2

Before you contact a sign company, it will be very helpful for you to have a clear picture in your head of what you want your sign to look like. Knowing approximate size, design, materials, and install location will greatly help your chosen company put together a quote for you.

Put together an online mood board of signs, colors, typefaces, and other visual details that resonate with you. Drive around your town, looking at the different signs, and think about which ones you like best and why.

Make a plan

Approaching a sign company with a clear and defined plan will help the project go much more smoothly for you and the sign company employees! They will work with you to make sure everything is affordable and feasible, and will recommend the right materials, so don’t stress about not knowing tech specs. (That’s our job!)

Get a quote

Once you’ve chosen a sign company you’d like to work with, contact them to request a quote. Because you’ve provided such a clear picture of the kind of sign you’d like them to make, their estimating team will have no trouble at all coming up with a quote for the sign size and materials you have in mind.

Ask a lot of questions

During the process, if there’s anything you don’t understand, don’t be afraid to ask. Good communication between clients and sign companies is what makes a project into a great experience for everyone.

Your chosen sign company might suggest a different material that will be more durable or more cost-effective for you, or might let you know that your sign has to be slightly different to adhere to city codes. Working together, you can adapt your idea to look great and avoid fines from the city.

What about installation?

Most sign companies have an in-house installation team. That means that the same people who put together your sign will be installing it wherever you’d like it to go, and your rapport with them will make the process easier for both of you!

Experienced installers that have been installing signs for years are also much more likely to do a great job, no matter what obstacles they might run into, so it doesn’t hurt to find a company that’s been around for at least a few years.
